In Cotsford Junior School, we know how important a successful transition is to our pupils with Additional Needs. We ensure that, a variety of strategies are used to enable a smooth transition from one school to another.
How we will support children with SEND when they are moving on to another class or leaving this school:
Year 2 to Year 3 Transition
We liaise closely with Cotsford Infant School, in order to ensure that children with additional needs move successfully from Year 2 to Year 3. We provide extra visits for those who we feel will benefit from an enhanced transition. The period of transition depends on the individual needs of the pupil. Staff will also take opportunities to visit our feeder infant school and get to know the pupils in their current setting.
This gives us an opportunity to see what is currently in place for the pupil and how we can support them at Cotsford. Where needed, the SENDCO will attend the Annual Reviews to meet the current class teacher, parents and most importantly the pupil. At this meeting we hope to ease any worries or concerns for the move to our school. Annually, we hold an open evening, in which parents have the opportunity to look around, meet staff and ask any questions they may have.
Year 6 to Year 7 Transition
We are keen to involve parents/carers as much as possible in their child’s transition to secondary school. We encourage children and parents to attend taster events and open days at all the local secondary school this supports families in making an informed choice about which established is best suited for them. Where appropriate, our SENDCO will invite staff, from the chosen secondary school, to any review meetings.
Secondary schools are all informed of provision in place for each child and where necessary parents can request specific transition arrangements in consultation with school.
If you would like to discuss your SEND requirements in detail please contact the school to arrange an appointment.
